FPI® Announces “Picture of Health” Contest to Promote Healthy Seafood Choices in Schools

Leading foodservice brand will award prizes to winning K-12 school district seafood programs

DANVERS, Mass., Feb. 14, 2012 /CNW/ - FPI®, a High Liner Foods (USA), Inc. foodservice brand, today announced the kick-off of “Picture of Health,” a contest designed to promote nutritious seafood options and establish long-lasting seafood programs in K-12 school districts nationwide.

School foodservice directors, along with FPI’s K-12 broker sales representatives, will compete for a series of valuable prizes by developing creative, appealing and nutritious seafood menu concepts that drive students’ excitement and enthusiasm for seafood. School foodservice directors and K-12 broker sales representatives will create video testimonials that document successful seafood programs being established in schools.

“FPI understands the challenges that foodservice directors face implementing seafood programs that students will find fun and appealing, while meeting national nutrition standards for schools,” said Rick Spalding, corporate accounts marketing manager for High Liner Foods (USA) Inc. “This contest is about finding school districts that are “pictures of health,” and models for other districts to follow when introducing fun and exciting seafood menu options.”

The Picture of Health promotion has three parts:

  • Between December 2011 and January 24, 2012, FPI’s K-12 broker sales representatives created menu concepts using five qualifying FPI products.
  • From Jan. 24, 2012 through May 25, 2012, K-12 brokers will work with school foodservice directors to secure placement of a menu concept on that district’s menu. In addition, foodservice directors and broker representatives will work to create seafood programs, which may include posters, costumes, props, giveaways and other creative elements to create energy and buzz in the schools. These programs will be documented with short videos.
  • There will be a voting period comprised of an online vote starting June 4, 2012, and an in-person voting station at the School Nutrition Association’s Annual National Conference in Denver, CO, from July 15-18, 2012. The school foodservice director and FPI K-12 sales broker whose video receives the most votes will each receive a $2,000 gift card.
